The Playscheme

Introduction

The HSGA playscheme began in 1997 because there was a need for something specifically for children with autism run by people who had a greater understanding of the condition. The first year we had 15 children some of the children had additional needs for example learning, physical and behavioural difficulties.

The playscheme grew very rapidly, there were more children than places available. As the playscheme grew we pushed through many of the children’s comfort zones, trying trips such as full days at Camelot and Ponderosa as well as testing the waters at swimming. We now run for the first three weeks of the Kirklees summer holidays, within this time we provide a fun filled week for over 100 children.

Over the years we have created good links with education, social services and health and we now have a staff team who are highly trained and skilled to manage the day to day challenges of working with our amazing children who present as having very complex needs. Each young person has a 1:1 worker, their needs will reflect the level of skilled support they receive.

Transport

Transport can be provided for those families that struggle getting their child to scheme and there is a small charge of £7 per day for transport as the buses cost over £2000 each year. Those families that opt for our transport service will be provided with estimated bus arrival times.

Cost

Kirklees unfortunately have requested that we charge £10 per day for the 2017 playscheme to help cover costs. Any problems with payment please see our Fee Waiver Policy
